Christmas Giving Tree
Each year at Christmas time, we distribute hundreds of gifts to needy children and families across our Owasso and Collinsville communities. We believe that every family should be able to sit down in their own home to a traditional feast at Christmas time to help create happy memories for their children. Unfortunately, for families living in financial disadvantage, Christmas often adds additional strain to existing budget pressures. We try to ease the burden on these families by providing gifts to their children during the Holiday.
Our program provides gifts to children 0 to 17 years of age and disabled senior adults who might otherwise go without. Each year, more than 500 children receive gifts through the sponsorship of many churches, civic groups and individuals in our community.
In our Giving Tree program, parents in need of assistance register their children to receive gifts fitting to their wish lists. Often times, children ask for items many would consider necessities – shoes, mittens, and clothing. We partner with churches and businesses in the area to share these wish lists in a Christmas stocking and together we encourage our community to “adopt” a child or senior adult for Christmas by providing gifts from their wish list. Every year, our program engages over 600 people in our community to make a difference in the lives of those in need during the Holiday Season. Shortly before Christmas, parents pick up the gifts and bring them home to be opened as part of their family celebration.
Registration typically opens up in October. In order to qualify, families must:
- Meet income guidelines (135 percent of the federal poverty level)
- Be the parent or legal guardian of the children being registered
- Be willing to provide proof of all household income, including food stamps, WIC, etc.
- Agree to not accept Christmas assistance from any other organization or group unless it is food.
